How to achieve your most important goals using the pomodoro method | sylviavandelogt.com

Like you, I have a million things to do.

if you're already busy with your core business, are still in a job, have kids to look after or have other things on your plate, it can be tough to do your most important work.

i have the same problem which is why I'm currently using the Pomodoro method to keep myself accountable and to accomplish some important tasks that I otherwise don't have time for.

What is the pomodoro technique?

The Pomodoro Technique is a time management method developed by Francesco Cirillo in the late 1980s. The technique uses a timer to break down work into intervals, traditionally 25 minutes in length, separated by short breaks. Since he used a timer in the shape of a tomato (which pomodoro in italian) the method became known as the pomodoro method.

You can use this method for all your tasks but it's a particularly effective method to use it for your most important work.

How I'm currently using it

I have 2 important things that I would like to accomplish by August 20. This is extra challenging for me as I'm currently traveling (and work less than usual) and have a big (no working) holiday planned in June.

I have 2 important tasks that I want to accomplish.

#1 Launch my podcast

I have wanted to start a podcast for a long time. I want to engage with you in a more personal way and I want to feature inspiring 40+ women that set out on this exciting entrepreneurial journey. Starting and launching has proven a bit more difficult than I expected and even though I started preparations (and even recording!) years ago, it still hasn't materialized.

That needs to end right now!

#2 Create a second lead generation funnel for this site

I'm currently working on an extensive guide that will show you the 10 step plan to get more than 20 newsletter subscribers every single day or even more than 100 (which is the reality for my business).

I already spoke in my article on how to turn your website into a lead generation machine of how important acquiring new leads is for your business so I want to help you achieve this.

Here is the plan according to the Pomodoro method

Every day I will complete 2 pomodoros, i.e. 2 x 25 minutes sessions which I will spend on this most important work.

It would actually have been better to just pick one of these goals but I like to be ambitious and it's important to have the lead generation funnel in place before I launch the podcast.

Having these 2 sessions in place means that I will HAVE to do them each day. It's perfectly fine if I have more time available and continue working on these, but can't skimp on them. I'm being held accountable by a mastermind group I have joined so there is a bit of extra 'pressure' to hold me accountable.

That got me thinking that you may like some help to do your most important work as well!

How to fit these pomodoros into your life?

You may like to think of ways to find time for 2 sessions of 25 minutes. Here are some suggestions:

  • Get up one hour earlier
  • Do your pomodoros before anything else (like opening up your emails)
  • Skip one hour of television
  • Delegate some of your other tasks to someone else

Let me know your most important goals and how you are planning to achieve them!
